the healing
a poem about healing and the sovereignty of God
when the healing doesn’t come when the brokenness remains when my heart becomes undone let me still be able to say: “God, you are so good you are the one who heals every why isn't understood but your power and love is real”
About
When you go through a trial, the sovereignty of God is the pillow upon which you lay your head.
Charles Spurgeon
Losing a loved one is one of the hardest trials we can face. No words can adequately describe the pain and brokenheartedness on the other side of loss.
Our God is Jehovah Rapha, The Lord Who Heals (Exodus 15:26). And yet, in His sovereignty, healing does not always happen here on earth. When the healing does or does not come, we can challenge ourselves to hold fast to the goodness, love and faithfulness of God. His character is unchanging. We can consider some of the reflections of the Psalms:
Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! - Psalm 34:8
Oh give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever! - Psalm 118:1
The LORD is good to all, and his mercy is over all that he has made. - Psalm 145:9
The Lord is good to all. Goodness encompasses who He is and all He has done and will do. In our grief and heartbreak, we can cling to His character and find rest and comfort in His presence. He draws close to and heals the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18, Psalm 147:3). He comforts us in our affliction and calls us to comfort and point one another to Him.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.
2 Corinthians 1:3-5
May our souls find fullness of rest and comfort in Him.
Prayer
Lord,
We acknowledge that you are our healer. You hold full power and authority to heal every sickness and disease. Help us to trust in your sovereignty and to affirm your goodness throughout all that we face in life. We are thankful that you are good and that your love endures forever.
Amen.
